Becoming a Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Things  /  April 12, 2019

I GOT MATCHED!

by Shavonne Morrison MS, RD, LD

So, as some of you may know, I have to go through a dietetic internship to become a registered dietitian.

Earlier this week was a day called Match Day. If you are a dietitian, dietetics student, or perhaps a medical student, you are probably familiar with this concept. It is a lengthy process that involves compiling all the work you have done throughout your collegiate career and putting it into a website called DICAS.

We don’t like DICAS very much. DICAS cannot sit with us.

Just kidding, but really it is pretty stressful at times getting everything put together. Constantly trying to resist the temptation to compare yourself to others, remembering that God’s got you, and you need to surrender this to Him because He is the one who determines whether you get this internship or not, and either way He knows what is best for you.

It was hard work! At times it was isolating as well. I am so thankful I had friends to help me stay encouraged, and my lovely husband to push me to be positive and stay in the Word. I asked for lots of prayer, too!

Now the part you’re probably waiting for…

I got matched to Texas Tech University’s Dietetic Internship!

I am so humbled and thankful to have been given this opportunity. It is truly by the grace of God that I am where I am today. I do not deserve any of the things that I have, and I cannot stress enough how deep my desire is to glorify God in every milestone I reach.

I wanted to do an update and let you guys know this new phase in my life and my career as a dietitian! I still am in a bit of shock, and just so thankful to have been given all of the opportunities that I know set me up for success in my profession. I could not imagine a more perfect profession for me to be in, I love what I do and the people I get to serve.

And it’s just the beginning!
